چکیده

This paper is devoted to the numerical resolution of an anisotropic non-linear diffusion problem involving a small parameter ǫ, defined as the anisotropy strength reciprocal. In this work, the anisotropy is carried by a variable vector function b. The equation being supplemented with Neumann boundary conditions, the limit ǫ→0 is demonstrated to be a singular perturbation of the original diffusion equation. To address efficiently this problem, an Asymptotic-Preserving scheme is derived. This numerical method does not require the use of coordinates adapted to the anisotropy direction and exhibits an accuracy as well as a computational cost independent of the anisotropy strength. keywords Anisotropic diffusion problems; Singular perturbation; Asymptotic-Preserving schemes. Asymptotic-preserving scheme for highly anisotropic non-linear diffusion equations

Heat transfer in magnetically confined plasmas is a process characterized by non-linear and extremely high anisotropic diffusion phenomena. Standard numerical methods, successfully employed in the numerical treatment of classical diffusion problems, are generally inefficient, or even prone to break down, when such high anisotropies come into play, leading thus to the need of new numerical techn...

Anisotropic Diffusion in ITK

Anisotropic Non-Linear Diffusion is a powerful image processing technique, which allows to simultaneously remove the noise and enhance sharp features in two or three dimensional images. Anisotropic Diffusion is understood here in the sense of Weickert, meaning that diffusion tensors are anisotropic and reflect the local orientation of image features. This is in contrast with the non-linear diff...

An anisotropic mesh adaptation method for the finite element solution of heterogeneous anisotropic diffusion problems

Heterogeneous anisotropic diffusion problems arise in the various areas of science and engineering including plasma physics, petroleum engineering, and image processing. Standard numerical methods can produce spurious oscillations when they are used to solve those problems. A common approach to avoid this difficulty is to design a proper numerical scheme and/or a proper mesh so that the numeric...

Anisotropic diffusion in mesh-free numerical magnetohydrodynamics

We extend recently developed mesh-free Lagrangian methods for numerical magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) to arbitrary anisotropic diffusion equations, including: passive scalar diffusion, Spitzer–Braginskii conduction and viscosity, cosmic ray diffusion/streaming, anisotropic radiation transport, non-ideal MHD (Ohmic resistivity, ambipolar diffusion, the Hall effect) and turbulent ‘eddy diffusion’. W...

The Density-Driven Nanofluid Convection in an Anisotropic Porous Medium Layer with Rotation and Variable Gravity Field: A Numerical Investigation

In this study, a numerical examination of the significance of rotation and changeable gravitational field on the start of nanofluid convective movement in an anisotropic porous medium layer is shown. A model that accounts for the impact of Brownian diffusion and thermophoresis is used for nanofluid, while Darcy’s law is taken for the porous medium. The porous layer is subjected to uniform rotat...
